Story Medical's Keegan Overbey Earns Statewide Nursing Leadership Award

NEVADA, Iowa –Keegan Overbey, ARNP, a member of the Story Medical Emergency Department team, has received the Leadership in Advanced Practice Nursing (APRN) Award from the Iowa Nurses Association (INA). He was recognized during the INA's annual Awards Ceremony on October 27 at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames.

The award recognizes advanced practice nurses who demonstrate exceptional leadership, positively influence patients and colleagues, and serve as role models for other advanced practice nursing professionals.

Amy Stark, BSN, RN, Clinical Education Specialist and Trauma Coordinator at Story Medical, nominated Overbey for the recognition and highlighted his clinical expertise, sound judgment, compassionate approach to patient care, and commitment to supporting those around him.

"Keegan is the kind of provider who makes everyone around him better," Stark says. "He brings tremendous clinical knowledge and sound judgment to every shift, but what really sets him apart is the way he approaches his work. He is compassionate with patients, supportive of his colleagues, and always willing to step forward when someone needs help."

In the fast-paced environment of an Emergency Department, advanced practice nurses play an important role in assessing patients, making clinical decisions and coordinating care. Overbey has distinguished himself by practicing independently, thinking critically, and consistently providing safe, high-quality care. His leadership also extends beyond direct patient care. He serves as a resource and role model for nurses, providers, and fellow advanced practice professionals, readily sharing his knowledge and encouraging others to develop their skills.

"Leadership isn't always about having a title or being the person in charge," Stark says. "It's about setting an example, remaining positive when situations become challenging, and helping your team deliver the best possible care. Keegan demonstrates those qualities every day, and this recognition is incredibly well deserved."

Overbey's dedication to continuing education and professional growth further reflects his commitment to the evolving field of advanced practice nursing. At Story Medical, his contributions support the organization's ongoing commitment to providing the Best Experience Every Time, ensuring patients receive knowledgeable, compassionate care when they need it most.

"We are fortunate to have Keegan as part of our Emergency Department team," Stark adds. "This award is a wonderful recognition of the difference he makes for our patients, his colleagues and our entire organization."
