NEVADA, IOWA – After an overwhelmingly positive response in 2024, Story County Medical Center is once again partnering with the USDA, Iowa Department of Education, United Way of Story County, Food at First, and rural school districts to provide free grab-and-go meals for children and teens in the Collins-Maxwell area throughout the summer.
Beginning June 3, children and teens aged 18 and under—regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability—can receive nutritious, no-cost meals twice a week. Meal deliveries will take place every Tuesday and Friday through August 22.
“Last year, we were truly inspired by the level of engagement from the community,” says Dr. Audra Poterucha, Story Medical Clinic – Nevada physician. “It was a reminder that when we prioritize basic needs like access to food, we are taking real steps to improve community health. We’re proud to bring this program back for a second year.”
The grab-and-go meals aim to help fill the gap for local families, particularly in the absence of the Summer EBT program, by providing reliable, accessible nutrition during the summer months.
“There was no question we would bring this back in 2025,” adds Story Medical CEO Nate Thompson. “The success of last year’s effort showed just how meaningful this outreach is. It’s a reflection of our mission to care for our neighbors beyond the walls of the medical center.”
There is no qualification or paperwork required. Families can register to receive meals and select their preferred pickup location by visiting storymedical.org/grabandgo.
