Position Description

This position is responsible for assisting the with the organization-wide Infection Control program including the design, implementation and monitoring of the program. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Maintain a log of all incidents related to infections and communicable diseases, including those identified through employee health services
  • In cooperation with the Quality Assurance Committee, write and implement policies and procedures governing infection prevention. Policies and procedures must reflect nationally-recognized infection prevention and management in hospitals and clinics
  • Update policies and procedures at least annually and as necessary as standards of practice and/or internal processes change
  • Provide education regarding appropriate precautions for the spread of communicable diseases and monitors for adherence
  • Communicate with state and local health authorities, cooperate with disease control activities, an disseminate information to appropriate staff
  • Report hand Hygiene Compliance, CAUTI, CLABSI, and Isolation Precautions to Iowa Healthcare Collaborative and governmental agencies as required
  • Track and trend data from Epic for process improvement
  • Participate in Department of Inspection and Appeals and/or DNV certification and inspection processes
  • Attend meetings/classes relevant to new nursing protocols as necessary
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all patient, resident, personnel information, and all other hospital information. 
  • Demonstrate good public relations
  • Effectively handle multiple projects and special assignments and other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited and approved nursing program
  • Current Iowa nursing license
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Certification in Infection Control or willing to obtain
  • Mandatory Reporter Certificate
