Position Description

The Director of Facilities provides overall leadership for the organization's facilities, including but not limited to buildings, grounds, and equipment. This includes but is not limited to: 

  • Direct supervision of the Facilities staff
  • Responsible for the Facility department's annual operating budget, capital expenditures, policies, and procedures
  • Responsible for the Facility department's participation and performance in regulatory certification and/or inspections processes
  • Supervise the Preventative Maintenance program by monitoring and performing inspection of preventative and non-scheduled maintenance on utility and mechanical systems
  • Supervise the maintenance and facilities activities to include paint touch-up, repair of wall, doors and hardware, minor electrical and plumbing, pneumatic tube system, repair refrigeration and refrigeration monitoring systems, carpet, bed, and furniture repairs, etc. to ensure a safe and efficient hospital operation
  •  Assist staff in the Facilities department as needed. This may include, but is not limited to, semi-skilled to skilled maintenance tasks
  • Participate in department head meetings, leadership huddles, staff meetings, and attend other meetings and events as they relate to the Facility department function

Position Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED required; secondary educational degree in an engineering related field (civil, mechanical, electrical, or similar) preferred
  • Active Iowa driver's license and completion of successful driving background check required
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Adaptability to accepting responsibility for the direction, control, or planning of an activity
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, physicians, patients, and visitors
  • Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality
  • Skilled in oral and written communications with the ability to present and explain quality data, as well as participate in and facilitate and/or lead meetings and projects
