Position Description

The Clinical Educator is responsible for successfully evaluating training needs and developing, directing and instructing programs for staff to support quality and positive patient outcomes. They will collaborate and work directly with department leaders to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate educational needs and strategies. The Clinical Educator will also work to provide patient education and community outreach education. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Evaluates and coordinates with clinical departments' orientation of new staff and continues all staff clinical professional development for safe practice procedures.
  • Oversees the clinical training and manages online and hands-on learning, especially utilizing online learning management system. 
  • Develops, coordinates, and evaluates instruction materials in all types of media formats. Delivers competence based programs for staff/leadership with a focus on improvement of skills and retention of knowledge. 
  • Supports staff/leadership development with educational activities which include remediation, certification, mentoring, life support, DNV CMS and Iowa Department of Health requirements, product roll-outs, et. and education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation. 
  • Provides community outreach education and serves on community-based committees representing Story Medical. 
  • Identifies, coordinates, and recruits internal and external resources such as nurse, doctor or other specialists for educational activities including continuing education credit, clinical affiliations preceptorships, nurse residency, etc. 
  • Focuses on team building and serves as a role model to promote ethical principles in all aspects of practice, promotes the concept of life-long learning and leads committees, work groups and/or projects related to the the implementation of educational activities.
  • Responds to changes quickly in nursing practice and develops programs to support those changes. 

Position Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent in Nursing required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field preferred. 
  • Knowledge of the Department of Inspection and Appeals and DNV GL knowledge preferred. 
  • Mandatory Reporter certified within 90 days of hire.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required within 90 days of hire. 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Life Support certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Successfully achieve American Heart Certified Basic Life Support Instructor, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor, and Pediatric Life Support Instructor within 1 year of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills. 
  • Ability to direct, control, and plan activities. 
  • Skilled in oral and written communication.
