Laboratory Launches Streamline Wellness Health Monitoring Service

Story County Medical Center announced today that a new laboratory service is being offered to the community. Streamline Wellness Health Monitoring provides low-cost laboratory screenings without a healthcare provider's order. All results are completely confidential and sent directly to the individual.

“There are many reasons that someone may want to know their lab results,” said Barb Cohen, Story Medical’s Laboratory Director. “If prostate cancer runs in the family, a man may want to check his PSA levels regularly. Or if a woman is working hard to lower her cholesterol before her next doctor’s appointment, she may want to get it tested ahead of time to check her progress.”

Iowa’s “safe haven” law was put on the books in 2001.  Under the law, which was strongly supported by the Iowa Hospital Association, unwanted babies age 14 days or younger can be surrendered at a hospital.  The law provides that the child’s parents will be immune from prosecution (assuming the child is unharmed), their identities will be kept private and the child will be cared for and eventually adopted.

Today, Iowa's Safe Havens still matter!
