emergency medical services to Eastern Story County through its Emergency
Department and Mobile Intensive Care Unit (Ambulance) Service.

Emergency Services
The Emergency Department at Story County Medical Center includes the MICU
(ambulance) and the Emergency Room. Services are provided 24 hours/day, 7
days/week, 365 days/year.
The department is verified by the Iowa Department of Public Health,
Bureau of EMS as a Community Level Trauma Care Facility (TCF), and as such
operates within those guidelines when caring for trauma patients. Ancillary
departments, i.e., Laboratory, Radiology (including CT scanning) and Social
Services are available on call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
Emergency Department
Story Medical's Emergency Room is staffed with Registered Nurses who have
education in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core
Course), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life
Support).
Physicians on staff at Story County Medical Center are on call 24
hours/day, 365 days/year.
Mobile Intensive Care Unit (Ambulance)
Story Medical's Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) services to eastern
Story County. The MICU is a fully authorized Paramedic specialist level
service and is dispatched via pager/radio by the
Story County Sheriff’s Department. All paramedics are verified in
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life
Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), and BLS (Basic Life
Support).
The Medical Center owns two ambulances; one is fully staffed 365
days/year. The ambulance is staffed with two paramedics per shift. The
shifts are 24 hours on and 48 hours off. In addition to responding to
emergency calls, the MICU staff assists in the Emergency Department,
performs EKGs, assists in Code Blue situations, helps educate the public on
living safer and healthier lives, works with local and area fire and law
enforcement agencies during emergency calls and performs other duties within
their scope of practice as assigned.
In addition, Story Medical's paramedics provide education to all first
responders and EMS personnel n Story County at no charge. For matters

Story County Medical Center has two ambulances. One is always available
to the paramedic staff's use, but the other is available to make appearances
at local events.
